Do you renew every year through a subscription? Maybe you buy-up once every 3 year cycle. Is your ability to update based soley on budgeting?

Let us know by selecting your or your company’s license purchasing habits on the poll in the right-hand sidebar. There still a need for a lot of votes to get a clearer picture, so make sure to tell you CAD, drafting, designing, and management peers to participate in the poll too.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the change in Autodesk’s pricing scheme for those that upgrade without subscription – virtually doubling the cost to do so. Also, with the numerous rounds of layoffs in all sectors, how does this affect your budget for subscribing to seats that aren’t needed anymore? I’m curious as to how many people these situations currently affect and what they will do in the future because of them.

As you can probably guess, as this month’s poll concerns your current software purchasing/upgrading scheme, next month’s poll will take into consideration what your plans for doing so are in the future.

The poll is on the sidebar to the right. Select the answer that most closely matches how you or your company updates Autodesk software. Please vote only once to obtain the best possible results and spread the word for others to so that a broader spectrum is represented well. The poll will remain open for one month (until Sept. 17th) so please participate before then. Thanks.

It would be ideal that every drafter and designer at every company could maintain a new or updated license of their design software every release. We could all enjoy the new features and abilities that the software programmers and application engineers were slaving over the past year and relish in the ROI that we were promised. I’m not criticizing the claims to ROI that the software companies make, but again, those claims are in an ideal world.

We don’t live in an ideal world, though. Some people may have no issues with getting a new release every year and it may even be expected. It is especially easy to do this on Subscription. The fact is that most companies and especially freelancers don’t have the time, effort, or funds to update their software package every year.

I’m curious to see what your particular situation is. Maybe I’m wrong and the majority does renew their software with each new release. I’d be hard-pressed to believe it, but maybe the poll will reveal something I’m unaware of.

The poll is on the sidebar to the right. Select the primary software you use on a daily basis and which release of that software you currently have. If you use 2 or 3 products regularly, simply vote again so that we can all have a better understanding of the results. The poll will remain open for one month (until Aug. 8th) so please participate before then. Thanks.
