Do you renew every year through a subscription? Maybe you buy-up once every 3 year cycle. Is your ability to update based soley on budgeting?

There has been a lot of discussion lately about the change in Autodesk’s pricing scheme for those that upgrade without subscription – virtually doubling the cost to do so.  Also, with the numerous rounds of layoffs in all sectors, how does this affect your budget for subscribing to seats that aren’t needed anymore?  I’m curious as to how many people these situations currently affect and what they will do in the future because of them.

As you can probably guess, as this month’s poll concerns your current software purchasing/upgrading scheme, next month’s poll will take into consideration what your plans for doing so are in the future.

We don’t live in an ideal world, though.  Some people may have no issues with getting a new release every year and it may even be expected.  It is especially easy to do this on Subscription.  The fact is that most companies and especially freelancers don’t have the time, effort, or funds to update their software package every year.

I’m curious to see what your particular situation is.  Maybe I’m wrong and the majority does renew their software with each new release.  I’d be hard-pressed to believe it, but maybe the poll will reveal something I’m unaware of.
