I’m always looking for ways to improve Indydrafter.com.  One of the biggest internal battles I’ve had as of late is whether or not a post should be shown in it’s entirety on the home page.  As you may have noticed in the past, all posts would be shown whole on every page they were available in-even if it was necessary to scroll down to infinity to get to the end of that particular post.

My problem was, I want all the information on the site to be as easily accessible as possible.  Would that be best accomplished by allowing a user to get the latest and greatest information on Indydrafter.com without navigating or clicking a link to another page, or would it be by abbreviating posts into a preview so as to let the user choose what they want/don’t want to read.

Well, I have obviously chosen to go the route of previews.  I believe this affect the accessibility of new posts in a positive way as they are front and center when you get to the home page of Indydrafter.com and if you are interested in it, a simple click of the “Read more” link will take you to the rest of the post.  It also decreases the time to get to the next post.  Why should you have to scroll down the page 8 times just to find out what the second newest post was about?

This change also affects the posts when you are searching through the categories.  Even if you know what AutoCAD feature you want to find out more about, why shouldn’t I make it easier to find the exact subject matter about that category.  Navigation of the site as a whole should be much better now.

I feel that this new method of organizing the site is a great improvement and I hope you feel the same way.  I’ll continue to keep making improvements to the site (including the forum, which I’m still having trouble with) so keep coming back for AutoCAD features, tips, tricks & techiques.

Thanks

Bryan
