For the month of May, Indydrafter.com‘s theme will focus on the subject of Fields. For those that don’t know what Fields are or what they do, here is a brief description given by the AutoCAD help menu:
“A field is updatable text that is set up to display data that may change during the life cycle of the drawing. When the field is updated, the latest value of the field is displayed.”
Fields were introduced to AutoCAD in the 2005 release. They cover the same bases that Diesel Expressions and RText have done in years past, but they do so much more. Ever wanted to dynamically enter and update information in your title blocks, even with your drawing file closed? Check. Thought there should be a better way to fill information in your tables and schedules? Check. Wondered if there was a way to check the properties of any entity in your drawing such as the viewport scale? Check.
Fields can handle all of these aspects in addition to so many more. Join me through the month of May for a little exploration and discovery of what Fields can do for you.
