Indydrafter.com Status Update
Well, as you may have noticed, the number of posts on the site have been at a minimum this month. This is especially true of AutoCAD related technical posts. There are several reasons for this.
First of all, Indydrafter.com has been in existence for about 4 months as of this post and already has posts 65 posts (including this one), of which about a third have been about technical tutorials or tips and tricks covering AutoCAD features. This is a very time consuming task and I needed to spend some time analyzing how much time to dedicate towards this without interfering with my efforts at work or with time spent with my family. The time spent with family is especially true now that I am working with my fiancée to plan our wedding.
The second reason there have been considerably fewer posts this past month have been with the intentions of improving the website as a whole. I posted on this earlier in the month here. I plan on continuing to make improvement to the site and making it a better experience for everyone. In the future, these changes will be more gradual, but there were some features such as the job board, site map, and other subtle improvements that I thought were a priority. To let you know ahead of time, future plans consist of a better incorporated Forum (in which I will work to promote and create discussion), a bi-weekly or monthly email newsletter, and a page containing my twitter feed. In addition to those, I’m hoping to add a media page for LISP, VBA, and .NET routines, Dynamic Blocks, eBooks that I’m in the process of writing, and maybe even video tutorials if I can get to that point.
The third and last reason for the lack of in-depth posting to the site has been work. Between a few people being laid-off and our workload holding steady, it has been busy around here. Add to that some co-workers’ time out of the office due to vacation, surgery, or sickness and there’s a recipe for a lot of hours. I’ve attempted to stay as active as possible on Indydrafter.com while not getting burnt out. The last thing I want to happen is to be overworked and start turning a blind eye to the site.
Now, with all that said and done, I look forward to a great series in September covering AutoCAD Dynamic Blocks while tidying up some left-over tips about AutoCAD Fields and the Sheet Set Manager that I don’t want to leave undone.
