AUGIndy March Meeting

It’s AUGIndy meeting time again and this go around we are discussing AutoCAD Civil 3D Styles. The presentation and discussion will be led by Jeremy Hood. Styles are the driving force behind productivity, efficiency, and consistency within Civil 3D. If you have just started using Civil 3D, are planning on it soon, or need to brush up on your skills then this is a meeting you must attend. Also, bring your questions as we’ll take some time at the end of the meeting to talk about any problems you’ve been having with any Autodesk ...

Download Your Next Autodesk Install

An announcement was made by the Autodesk Labs Blog concerning a change in the way most Autodesk customers will receive and install their software. With the tremendous development of technology over the past several years, it is now viable and effective to download software online. Autodesk is taking an ‘eco-friendly’ (see: ‘cost-saving’) move to reduce the amount of installation discs they distribute to customers.

This change doesn’t affect Media and Entertainment customers and there are several countries excluded from this program (click the link above for details). Keep in mind, though, that ...

Preferred Internet Browsers For Best Indydrafter.com Experience

There are several internet browsers out there. To name just a few: Google Chrome (my favorite), Mozilla Firefox, Apple Safari, and the many versions of Internet Explorer (IE6, IE7, and IE8 in particular). Everyone of these browsers interprets and renders the code on website pages differently, which can cause some problems in your experiences of some website features. I’ll spare you the details, but the 2 browsers that cause the most problems for Indydrafter.com are Internet Explorer 6 and 8.

With IE6, there really isn’t any option aside from just dealing ...

AUGIndy February Meeting

Well, I didn’t get the announcement out in time to let everyone know about the meeting. Sorry about that everyone. I’ll make sure that doesn’t happen again, but if you get curious you can always check the Events page or the AUGIndy Meeting Info page for the regular meeting schedule and information.

At the meeting, we talked a while about the differences between different releases of AutoCAD from 2007 to 2010 and how the feature sets stack up against each other. We also touched briefly on the comparison between AutoCAD and ...

First-Hand Haiti Experience

This subject is unrelated to my blog, but this is an important subject and, although there has been a lot of news coverage on the earthquake(s) in Haiti, I don’t think there has been anything like this. This is a first-hand experience written by my roommate from college. Please read this. Please aid the efforts in Haiti however you can. Please, be more like my friends Andrew and James. They are incredible people, as Andrew’s writing will point out.

(Don’t worry about the spelling and grammar. He’s an electrical engineer and ...

More on AU 2009

Autodesk University 2009 was by all definitions a success. Everyone that I’ve talked to, whether they were in Las Vegas or attending via the AU Virtual events, had a great time and walked away from the experience with an improved knowledge of the programs we work with daily, more connections and friends, and much more. I covered all this last week when I posted my reactions to Autodesk University 2009 here. That’s all fine a good, but there are two sides to every story.

There is room for improvement on the ...

Autodesk University 2009

Autodesk University (Las Vegas) is over, the AU Extension events are wrapping up, and Autodesk is gearing to update the AU Online website in short order to contain all of the AU Virtual (AUv) screencasts, handouts, materials, and course descriptions for AU 2009. It has been a pretty big success this year with the roll-out of AUv and the incorporation of Twitter into socially connecting everyone in Las Vegas and around the world.

I personally participated in the AUv sessions both from the office at work during lunch and in between ...
